Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2) is a chronic non-communicable disease that currently affects about 12.5 million Brazilians, with the country ranking fourth in the highest incidence. Therefore, the objective of this article is to analyze the main ways of modifying the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This is an integrative review of the literature, to carry out the research will be used the databases: Scielo, Web of science and Virtual Health Library (BVS / MEDLINE). Diabetes has a negative impact on patients' perception of their quality of life. Combined therapy between metformin and physical activity improved functional capacity and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, compared to isolated therapy, being considered pillars in the treatment and important for the prevention of complications generated by DM2. In addition, the use of insulin shows a lower score in the mental component scores, improving the patient's quality of life. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out new studies regarding changes in quality of life in relation to treatment time, in order to apply the best interventions at each stage of adaptation, generating quality of life for these patients, and ensuring comprehensive health care.
