Abstract

Since Law 5692/71, education has become a comprehensive process aimed at the holistic development of the learner, and it must include sexual education as a part of the educational process and National Curriculum Parameters (NCP), which consider human sexuality as a topic of utmost importance for students' development. Sexual education is essential in the student's formation, both on a personal and social level. The school should contribute to this formation. It is evident that the difficulty in addressing sexual education is related to the historical constitution of sexuality itself. This study aimed to analyze the work carried out on sexual education in schools. It is qualitative research, and for data collection, a questionnaire adapted from (SANTOS, ASSIS, MARRA, OLIVEIRA, and PIVA, 2021) was used, along with the snowball technique, conducted through the Survio platform. The inclusion criteria were elementary school teachers with more than one year of experience in the system. The results show that 84% of the teachers believe that their initial training did not provide adequate resources for addressing sexuality in school. There is an understanding that the school is a space where children express various relationships and encounter differences, including gender differences. Hence, the importance of addressing sexuality in the school environment. The primary contribution of the school and training teams is to create a space for reflection on the different ways of experiencing sexuality with respect for differences in others and oneself.
