Abstract

When patients with neurological diseases undergo surgical procedures, they can present various complications and lead to negative outcomes, including death. The objective is to report, through a literature review, nursing care for patients undergoing neurosurgery and demonstrate the indicators of the diseases that most result in neurosurgical procedures. Integrative literature review, with a method that brings together and synthesizes the knowledge produced through the analysis of results evidenced in primary studies. To select the studies, scientific databases were consulted, such as PubMed, Google Scholar, BDENF, LILACS and Scielo. To organize the data and enable analysis, a table was created with a synthesis of the selected studies using the Microsoft Office Word 2010 program. 100 references of works were found in electronic media, 40 of which were in Scielo, 10 in PubMed, 40 in Google Scholar and 10 in LILACS. From there, all 100 references were reevaluated based on the guiding questions “How does Nursing Systematization occur for patients undergoing neurosurgery?” and “what are the indicators of the most prevalent diseases of the nervous system?”. Of these, those that did not meet all the established criteria were excluded: year of publication in the last ten years and Portuguese, English and Spanish. After that, five studies were selected. Therefore, it can be observed that the diseases of brain aneurysms, brain tumors, brain injuries, neurodegenerative diseases, brain hematoma, epilepsy and migraine are more prevalent for the neurosurgery procedure. A table was created with the main findings regarding nursing care for patients in the immediate postoperative period of neurosurgery. It is concluded that the application of SAE allows nurses to carry out planning and care in a comprehensive, holistic and individualized manner, avoiding possible complications and unexpected cancellations of the procedure, contributing to a better quality of life.
