Abstract

This work addresses cracks in buildings, highlighting their relevance in civil construction. Furthermore, the study identifies various causes for the emergence of these anomalies, such as thermal and hygroscopic variations, overloads on the structure, foundation settlements and chemical changes in the materials. The classification of fissures according to their opening and movement allows them to be differentiated between active and passive, a determining factor in choosing the treatment method for these pathological manifestations. In this context, the article explores methods for investigating crack movement, as well as the appropriate corrective technique for each case. The systematic approach presented highlights the importance of accurately identifying the cause of the anomaly, so that effective treatment strategies can be applied. Therefore, the literature review of the article is focused on the classification of fissures and treatment approaches, considering the influence of the type of fissure on the choice of methods. In turn, the discussion of results highlights the relationship between cracking and durability, emphasizing the importance of the corrective technique. Finally, treatment techniques, such as injection, sealing, stapling, bandage and wire mesh, are detailed, highlighting the appropriate selection depending on the nature of the crack.
