Abstract

The article seeks to explore the foundations of the Social Service profession and its historical evolution, in light of a critical period in Brazilian history and the song lyrics that capture this context. The Military Dictatorship marked approximately two decades of repression and censorship in Brazil, creating a scenario of profound social and political crisis, which directly influenced the practice and theory of Social Work. The songs "Cálice" and "Que País é Esse?" they serve as documents of protest and resistance, reflecting the tensions and struggles of the time. Thus, it aims to analyze these songs in dialogue with academic and theoretical texts about Social Work, and draw a correlation between the challenges faced by social workers during the dictatorship and the social criticisms expressed in the songs' lyrics. By examining the intersection we seek to understand how professional practice was shaped by and responded to the period of intense repression and inequality.
