Abstract

The construction industry faces recurring problems of delays, especially in public works, often associated with a lack of adequate planning and poor integration between design disciplines. This study aimed to investigate the application of BIM-IFC models in simulating the execution of a Basic Health Unit, using Navisworks software for interference detection and 4D planning. The IFC models provided by the federal government mostly had correctly classified elements, which facilitated the federation and analysis of the projects. Interference checks identified minor and major conflicts, reinforcing the need for prior compatibility before execution. The 4D simulation was developed based on the definition of the construction sequence, the preparation of the schedule in a spreadsheet, and the linking of activities to the elements of the model. The analyses indicate that the Level of Development of the elements directly influences the level of detail possible in the simulation, and that the organization of elements by class and level facilitates the assignment of tasks in Navisworks. Among the recommendations presented, we highlight the clear definition of information requirements, the adequate modeling of the elements necessary for planning (including provisional elements), and the standardization of nomenclatures and classifications. The study contributes to the understanding of the factors that influence 4D simulation and reinforces the relevance of using IFC models to support public works planning.
